Transforming business metrics into actionable insights
Client: Datindo Infonet Prima
Year: 2024
Datindo needed a more efficient way to access insights into their logistics operations. Their existing process required administrators and developers to manually run SQL queries on their operational database to generate reports on key metrics like the number of requests.
This approach led to delays, inefficiencies, and wasted developer time on tasks that should be easily accessible to management. Additionally, the process was highly technical, making it inaccessible to non-technical decision-makers.
We partnered with Datindo to build a web dashboard that provides management with instant access to logistics insights, eliminating the need for manual queries and streamlining decision-making.
Before implementing our solution, Datindo’s teams relied on a time-consuming and inefficient reporting process. Every time management needed a report, developers had to manually execute complex SQL queries on the operational database. These queries often took a long time to run, slowing down decision-making and making it difficult for management to get timely insights. The process required technical expertise, preventing non-technical stakeholders from accessing critical business metrics independently.
This method was not only inefficient but also an unnecessary use of developer time, which could have been better spent on core business initiatives. As Datindo continued its transition to AWS, it became clear that the company needed an automated, scalable, and cost-effective solution that would streamline reporting, improve accessibility, and reduce manual work.
To address these challenges, we designed and built a cloud-native, serverless data pipeline and web dashboard that provided h-1 access to logistic metrics.
The solution included a web dashboard built with Next.js, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS, offering a fast and intuitive interface tailored for management. On the backend, we developed a serverless architecture using AWS API Gateway and AWS Lambda, ensuring scalability and eliminating the need for dedicated servers.
A key component of the system was an optimized data pipeline that automated the extraction of operational data. Using AWS Lambda and EventBridge, we designed a process that retrieved relevant data, ran pre-processed queries, and stored the results in a dedicated dashboard database. The new PostgreSQL database on AWS RDS featured a schema optimized for dashboard queries, significantly improving data retrieval speed.
Since Datindo was moving towards a cloud-first approach, the entire system was built on AWS to align with their broader infrastructure strategy. A serverless model was chosen to minimize costs while handling variable traffic efficiently. To ensure consistency and reduce human errors, all AWS infrastructure was provisioned using AWS CDK, enabling fully automated deployments.
With the new dashboard in place, Datindo’s logistics operations were transformed. Management could now access metrics instantly without requiring SQL queries or developer assistance. The automation of data collection and processing significantly reduced reporting delays, making it possible to generate reports in half the time previously required.
By eliminating the need for developers to manually retrieve data, the solution freed up valuable technical resources, allowing teams to focus on more strategic initiatives rather than routine reporting tasks. The move to a fully serverless architecture also ensured that the solution remained cost-effective, scaling seamlessly with Datindo’s growing data needs without requiring additional infrastructure management. This powerful, automated analytics dashboard provided Datindo’s management with the ability to make faster, data-driven decisions while reducing inefficiencies across the organization. The result was a modern, low-cost, and highly scalable reporting solution that empowered the business to operate more efficiently and proactively.
